Fazenda Birmingham was nearly a victim of the Coronavirus pandemic and boy are we glad that the team at Fazenda HQ decided to save this gem!
Let’s be clear from the start of this blog – we highly recommend a visit to Fazenda! From the moment we stepped through the door and were greeted by the hostesses, the whole experience at Fazenda was faultless; the service, ambience and décor, the range and quality of the food, along with the delicious drinks, this is definitely one to stick on your list!
Fazenda is a Rodizio style restaurant nestled in the heart of the vibrant Colmore Row area of the City, where there is some seriously stiff competition for great hospitality (we know because we’ve tried most of them!).
For those not familiar with Rodizio restaurants, the format is essentially a Brazilian style all you can eat, where there is a constant flow and variety of meats (vegetarian options and sides are available also) brought to you by the waiting staff on long skewers and cut fresh at the table. You control the flow of food with a card, Green on one side and Red on the other – Green indicates you want to be served more and Red means you’re not quite ready for more just yet. That’s essentially how it works but as always, the devils in the detail…
The customer service in general was top class and special recognition has to go to our main waiter Dario, who was exceptional from the word go until the moment we left, attentive but not too much, prompt, polite and knowledgeable. We kicked off with glass of fizz and an appetizer of bread, cheese and olives whilst we decided on which cocktails to go for.
They have a fantastic selection of wines to compliment your meal, but we were in the mood for cocktails. The cocktail list is a good mix of non-standard concoctions so we went for recommendations from Dario throughout the night, none of which disappointed.
With its continuous flow of freshly grilled, succulent meats (of which there are 13 to choose from) even the heartiest of meat lovers will be absolutely satisfied and bursting at the seams, BUT let’s not forget the sides, unlike a lot of other restaurants, these were both creative and delicious. As we ordered some sides and started sipping on our first cocktail, we were soon introduced to the mouth-watering, perfectly grilled meats, with a bit of Picanha (Cap of rump) and Cordeiro (Lamb rump) to start us off, and what a way to start it was.
Throughout the night we flipped the card from Red to Green and back a number of times as we worked our way through almost all of the different cuts of meat as well as a number of the sides.
It would be difficult to choose a stand out winner from the selection of meats and the sides were all great so it really depends on your liking but for me one particular side dish was a real delight, the pure de batata doce (sweet potato, feta and mint pomme puree).
