The last Saturday of April marks the annual celebration of World Taiji Day whereby large crowds of people gather together to perform Taiji and promote the health benefits that it provides to its practitioners. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of celebrating World Taiji Day in Malta, the China Cultural Centre in Malta has invited the new generation leader of Taiji, Master Wang Zhanjun and his students to demonstrate their incredible Taiji skills on Zoom.

For those who are not familiar with Taiji, it is a low-impact and slow-motion martial art where one must breathe deeply, move through a series of motions without pausing whilst calming one’s mind.

So... What's Happening This Year?

Master Wang, who set the Guinness World Record for tossing a 2kg weight 98cm into the air using only his abdomen, will teach and demonstrate his “Three Forms Routine - Taiji & Push Hand” which is an ideal routine for people to improve their Taiji in a short span of time. It includes 13 basic movements of Taiji that can be performed slowly as a means to relax and improve overall wellbeing. However, if the same movements are performed with greater speed, they can be used for combat and self-defense.

This demonstration will be followed by Master Wang Zhanjun’s students performing a Taiji dance entitled “The Universe Within a Sleeve” accompanied by the famous song in Chinese Opera, “The Butterfly Lovers”.

The China Cultural Centre is also happy to announce that the Malta Martial Arts Association, Taichi Malta Yang Family and the Malta School of Wushu will also be attending this event.
